Short Description: Grand Domain’s Idex is an identity gateway allowing people to use a single digital identity provided by their home organization for easy access to online services.
Idex is an identity gateway allowing people to use a single digital identity provided by their home organization for easy access to online services.
Currently, organizations will duplicate their user directory (containing information like first name, last name, DOB) in each service they subscribe to so their users can be authenticated and identified. This leads to privacy issues and information going stale.
A better solution is a proven practice called identity federation. The user’s home organization is relied on for authentication by external organizations (other businesses or service providers), meaning the home organization retains control over the user identities in a single central location. For the external party it means they no longer have the burden of authentication or user management.
This requires establishing trust and the technical setup of federation between the parties. It is easy enough between two businesses, but becomes a huge and ongoing task when you are a service provider with thousands to millions of client organizations (or when you’re an organization using tens of services).
Idex handles the setup and management of identity federation. Organizations need only establish a single federation relationship with Idex to be able to be connected to thousands of others. Idex is an identity gateway that makes the federation process a whole lot simpler for both organizations and service providers.
For organizations, it allows easier access to services that provide functions they can’t achieve on their own. Services can be offered across borders to new customers in new markets. Idex allows smaller service providers to offer the same level of integration as provided by their larger counterparts and offers better privacy and security to protect users.
