Gnowledge is a public portal that runs on Microsoft Windows Azure to support Education. Users can create, publish, share and take tests, and complete exercises and assignments. It aims to be to tests, exercises and assignments what YouTube is to videos. Gnowledge offers benefits to teachers, students and parents including: automatic grading, access to more than 2,000 tests on a variety of topics, no time restrictions for test-takers, the ability to view test answers after the test, and the tracking of test results to measure improvement.
Gnowledge -- a phonetic play on the word Knowledge and was chosen because the creators believe that education is a right not a privilege and access to quality education should not be determined by a person's origin, demographic or background.
Gnowledge saw their solution as a natural fit in the Apps for Asia competition because it supports the ADB's efforts to promote education and solves some of the shortcomings faced in the region, namely access to quality educational content as well as the need to improve records management. The local Malaysian company is also hoping that being a part of the Apps For Asia competition will raise awareness of their solution and drive traffic to their public portal – Gnowledge.com.
Gnowledge has already promoted the solution in Singapore, an English-based homogenous education system whose standards are held in high regard around the world, and Malaysia. In Malaysia, the company used its knowledge of the local education system and local culture to create awareness of the solution in reputable schools and with the Ministry of Education. Down the road, Gnowledge hopes to have private versions of the solution implemented within individual schools, and later combine them into clusters so that educational content, as well as student progress and prowess, can be measured and monitored more effectively and accurately.
